Poker Dictionary

Action: The cash betted by a gamer during a game session.

Active: Gamer who is still in the pot.

All-In: Pushing all the remaining chips into the pot.

American Airlines: Pair of Aces.

Animal: A loose-aggressive gamer.

Bankroll: The total of money a gamer has for a game session.

BB: Big Blind.

Bet: A gamble or wager.

Board: Community cards.

Bounty: Tournament Award to somebody who meets the given criteria.

BR: Bankroll.

Broadway: Ace high straight.

Bubble: Finishing the tournament in the spot closest to the money.

Bullets: Pair of Aces.

Bust Out: losing the buy in.

Button: Disk representing the dealer in the given hand.

Chips: Tokens employed at poker tables in lieu of cash.

Cold: A gamer on losing streak.

Color Down: Swapping chips for a lower denomination.

Color Up: Swapping chips for a higher denomination.

Cutoff: The person on right of the button.

Dealer: Casino’s employee who deals various games.

Dump: Folding a hand.

EP: Early Position.

Face Cards: Jack, Queen, or King of each suite.

Family Pot: The pot where many gamers take part in the hand.

Fast: Playing a hand aggressively.

Flush: Hand having five cards of one suit.

Fold: When a gamer declines the bet and drops out of the hand.

Free Ride: A round where no one bets.

Hit: When the flop cards are useful to your hand.

HL: High limit.

Hooks: Pair of Jacks.

Image: Perception that other gamers have of your playing style.

Lay Down: Folding a hand.

ML: Middle limit.

Monster: A superior hand unlikely to lose.

NL: No limit.

Orbit: A whole rotation around the table.

Outkicked: Losing to another hand with a superior kicker than yours.

Outrun: Beating a hand that you were trailing behind on an earlier street.

Outs: Cards left over in the deck that will assist your hand win a pot.

Overcall: Calling a bet following at least one other gamer has already called.

Paint: Another name for a face card.

Pass: To not bet (to fold).

PF: Pre flop.

Pocket Rockets: Another name for two aces as the hole cards.

Poster: A gamer who posted in the current hand.

Push: Playing the hand aggressively.

Put: Suspecting that somebody has a particular hand.

Rag: A card that seems useless.

Rainbow: Three of four cards of dissimilar suits.

Rank: Worth of a set of cards.

Rock Garden: A game comprising of many rocks.

Rockets: Another name for two aces as the hole cards.

Rounder: Professional casino poker gamer.

Royal Flush: An ace high straight flush or the greatest possible hand.

Sandbag: Another name for slow playing.

SB: Small blind.

Stack: Amount of cash you have at the table currently.

Steal: Winning the pot by bluffing.

Tap Out: Losing all the money.

Three of a Kind: Three cards of same rank.

Two Pair: A hand made up of a singleton and two sets of pairs.

Underdog: A hand that is improbable to win the pot.

Walking Sticks: Pair of sevens.

Wired Pair: Holding the pair in the hole.
